Anne Arundel County, and consequently Annapolis, has one of the strongest economies in the state with an unemployment rate that’s consistently below the national average. There is a great deal of space available for commerce in and around Annapolis, as well as close to the International Thurgood Marshall Airport. 

Maryland leads the nation in the percentage of professional and technical workers that make up the total workforce, about 25 percent. A great asset to the skilled workforce Anne Arundel County has spearheaded a workforce development effort to train quality workers to meet employers’ specific needs. Training can take place at the workplace, on the Anne Arundel Community College campus in Arnold, or at specialized labs at Arundel Mills and the Glen Burnie Town Center.

Major market hubs are within easy reach for the businesses located in Annapolis including Washington, D.C., Baltimore, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Boston, Richmond and Norfolk.

The Economic Development Corporation was set up to help businesses relocate to the area from other states.

Annapolis, the State Capital, also has been named one of the 10 best places to live in the United States. Alongside living here, the county has become a major center for national and international company headquarters. More than 14,000 businesses call the area home and employ more than 200,000 people.

Major employers include: ARINC, Booz Allen & Hamilton, Computer Sciences Corporation, General Dynamics and Northrop Grumman.
